How To Have Your Own BMB-Inspired Facial At Home
At BMB, we tailor our specialty in massages and facials for the expecting and postpartum mother. At every stage of your pregnancy — and post-labour — the needs of your body and skin shift, requiring different essential nutrients and different techniques.
Why we’re bringing the facial home
It’s almost refreshing to have those needs met during a relaxing hour-long Prenatal Massage to do away with back aches and sore feet, alongside the occasional enriching facial to clear dead skin cells and bring back the pregnancy glow. But when life makes a clinic visit impractical — new baby, a busy week, travel — we want you to be able to recreate the spirit of the BMB facial in your own home.
Here we’re bringing our massage and facial tips directly to you for your enjoyment and relaxation. The recipe below is built around our signature Hydration Replenish Facial — one of our most-loved treatments and a favourite among pregnant and breastfeeding clients.
The pregnancy glow isn’t one thing — it’s the daily routine, the right products, and the occasional hour of dedicated care all working together.
What is the Hydration Replenish Facial?
If you’re an existing client of ours, you may be familiar with one of our many signature facial treatments — many of which are beneficial even for pregnant or breastfeeding mums. From our Signature Marine Detox Facial to our specially-tailored Hydro JetPeel Oxygenation Facial, BMB offers specific facial treatments that vary based on your skin type, goals, and needs.
Our Hydration Replenish Facial is highly popular among our clients because it’s simply refreshing — nourishing oily or dehydrated skin during pregnancy, plumping the skin using premium German skincare from DALTON, relieving facial tightness, reducing fine lines, restoring moisture levels, and repairing your skin’s moisture barrier. Importantly, it’s safe for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
Six tips for your own facial at home
Set the scene
Dim the lights. Put on calm music. Pin your hair back. Treat the next 30 minutes as protected time — phone face-down, partner on baby duty. Atmosphere is half the treatment.
Cleanse twice
Use a gentle pregnancy-safe cleanser. Cleanse first with an oil-based or balm cleanser to lift the day, then a second time with a foaming or cream cleanser to actually clean the skin. This double-cleanse is the foundation of every BMB facial.
Steam (or warm cloth)
If you have a facial steamer, use it for 5 minutes. Otherwise, lay a clean warm flannel over your face for two minutes — this opens pores and prepares your skin to absorb the products you’re about to apply.
Hydrating mask
Apply a hyaluronic-acid or aloe-based mask for 15 minutes. This is the moisture-replenishment step — pregnancy skin is oily-yet-dehydrated, and a dedicated hydrating mask once a week makes a visible difference. Avoid masks with salicylic acid or retinol.
Massage in serum
While your skin is still damp, press in a hydrating serum (hyaluronic acid + glycerine works beautifully) with gentle upward strokes for 2–3 minutes. This face-massage step boosts circulation and gives you a little of the “hands-on” BMB feel.
Seal & sleep
Finish with a moisturiser and (if doing this in the morning) mineral SPF 30+. If at night, layer a slightly richer cream and head to bed. Your skin does most of its repair while you sleep — give it the best canvas to work with.
Good skincare is daily, not occasional
At BMB, we believe that good skincare products and a good daily skincare routine are just two of the essential factors that can help you achieve healthy skin. During pregnancy, your skin may appear dehydrated yet oily at the same time — but don’t put off the moisturiser just yet. Just because the skin looks oily on the surface does not mean there is no need for extra moisture. The home-facial above works best when paired with a consistent twice-daily routine of pregnancy-safe cleanser, serum, moisturiser, and SPF.
