It is natural to find yourself wanting to stay absolutely fit during your pregnancy, not just for the health benefits but keeping an active lifestyle can boost our self-esteem.
It is important to note that fitness does not only refer to the physical aspect, but also, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually fit. So, with this perspective, we bring some simple and easy-to-do tips to stay fit during your pregnancy.
Moderate exercise
Engaging in moderate exercises twice or thrice a week for 15 to 30 minutes is not only going to uplift your mood but also help you stay healthy. Some recommended exercises are, walking, swimming, aerobic exercises and yoga. Ensure that the exercises that you are performing are comfortable and not causing any strain.
If you were not in the habit of working out before your pregnancy stage, then, begin slowly with your exercises. The key is to pause and listen to your body without causing any discomfort to yourself.
Meditation
While exercises are an excellent choice for fitness, it is possible that you might choose to not engage in any exercise. In this case, meditation is a way to incorporate fitness into your life. Meditation is the exercise for your mind and soul. It will allow you to take time from your life and focus inwards to find your inner peace. You can meditate anywhere at any time for however long you choose to.
You can listen to soothing music during meditation, you can chant while having your eyes closed or you can sit in silence and meditate. All three methods are equally effective and can help you feel healthy and fit. This will also quiet down your mind a little from all your worries and questions about the health of your baby, so you can sleep, work and relax peacefully during your day.
Recommended: Since ancient times, chanting ‘Om’ has been said to have healing properties. The vibration created by this word is considered to be healing for your body and mind.
Healthy meals
The overemphasis on having a healthy diet has often taken us away from the fact that we do not need to choose between healthy and delicious meals. As we mentioned before, this fitness is a holistic kind where we have to take into account our mind, body and heart.
Having a healthy diet is undoubtedly important with the right combination of vitamins, calcium, iron and zinc. Additionally, having small portions of six meals a day will help you remain satiate without overeating. However, having a healthy diet does not mean you can’t find a way to incorporate the food items that warms your heart, for example, if you have a sweet tooth but want to find a healthy alternative, then you can choose nut butter incorporated into your diet or fruits instead of processed sweets and sugar. You can have healthy and hearty meals because it is important to enjoy your food.
Take a closer look at your cravings because often those cravings are your body’s way of signalling the need for a particular vitamin or protein, so look closely into your cravings.

Stay hydrated
It is important to replenish your body with water to keep your body healthy and fit. Staying hydrated will help you keep your energy high and allow your body to function well. Aim to drink around 2 litres of water every day. To remind yourself to stay hydrated, keep a bottle of water near you every time so that you sip on the water every time you see it.
The bonus part is staying hydrated will also do wonders for your skin to keep it looking dewy, thereby, making you feel good from inside and outside!
Listen to your body
The most important aspect of your fitness during your pregnancy journey is to intuitively listen to your body. You are the best judge of your needs and listening to your body will allow you to make the right fitness choices. This will help you maintain your balance between your physical, mental, spiritual and emotional health.
Be sure to check with your doctor or gynaecologist if you would like to incorporate these routines into your lifestyle.
